According to MSNBC commentator Joy Reid, the criminal prosecutions of former President Donald Trump were “hitting it home” and represented a kind of racial reckoning.
Reid said that she found it “wonderfully poetic” that black public servants such as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis were spearheading the prosecutions against Trump on Monday, just as the New York hush-money trial was getting underway.
However, the reality strikes me as having a wonderfully lyrical quality. Reid stated, “A black Harvard graduate is the first person to truly criminally prosecute Donald Trump.” “The exact type of individual that Steven Miller, his former employees, and others would prefer never to see at Harvard Law School. However, he was. And he graduated and came out, and now, Donald, he is suing you.
Reid continued by mentioning the roles played by Willis in Georgia and Letitia James, New York’s attorney general, in other cases involving the former president.
“And a black woman is doing that exact same thing in Georgia, and a black woman compelled you to pay a $175 million fine,” Reid remarked, raising doubts about the veracity of the bond that Trump’s representative had posted. “Those who posted it might not be legitimate.”
“The exact multicultural, multiracial democracy that Donald Trump is attempting to destroy is holding him accountable. The fact that we still have the ability to make that happen speaks well of our nation. Proceed, DEI. She cried, “My DEIs are taking it home.”
Joy Reid suggests that the criminal cases brought against Trump is racially-based vengeance by black officials:

Like many Republicans, Trump has decried the emphasis on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) practices, threatening to “cancel every diversity, equity, and inclusion program across the entire federal government” in a speech to supporters in New Hampshire earlier this year.
Additionally, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has moved to outlaw DEI programs in governmental offices and colleges in Florida.
