Trump Stands Firm: America First Amid Ukraine Crisis

When America voted Donald Trump back into office, we reaffirmed our commitment to put America First. Yet, as we focus on rebuilding our manufacturing base, securing our borders, and elevating our education system, the world beyond our shores grows increasingly dangerous. Nowhere is this clearer than in Ukraine, where Vladimir Putin has once again unleashed his brutal war machine.

On May 25th, Russia launched the largest aerial assault of the Ukraine war so far, flooding Ukrainian cities with a staggering 367 drones and missiles. According to Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, this savage bombardment killed at least 12 innocent people—including three children—and wounded dozens more. The attack was strategically ruthless, targeting civilian areas across Kyiv, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and even the distant western region of Khmelnytskyi.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy immediately called on President Trump and the United States to break their silence and condemn Putin’s actions. Zelenskiy stated bluntly via Telegram, “The silence of America, the silence of others in the world only encourages Putin…Every such terrorist Russian strike is reason enough for new sanctions against Russia.”

Yet, President Trump’s administration has rightly focused on America’s own interests. While we naturally sympathize with innocent victims, America cannot be dragged into every foreign conflict. Our first responsibility is to the American people, to their security, prosperity, and freedom.

Under Joe Biden, America handed billions in aid to Ukraine with little accountability, draining our own resources while failing to achieve peace. President Trump has sensibly taken a different approach—one that places America’s interests first, while still calling for responsible diplomacy and a negotiated ceasefire. Recent prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine underscore that negotiation, not endless escalation, is the key to saving lives.

Yet, as Special Envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg noted, this latest Russian attack clearly violates international standards, specifically the 1977 Geneva Peace Protocols. Such barbarism demands the world’s condemnation. America must send a clear message: we support peace, we condemn aggression, but we will not sacrifice our own national interests on foreign battlefields.

Ukraine’s air defense reportedly downed 266 drones and 45 missiles. This brave resistance is commendable, but the reality remains stark: without sustained diplomatic pressure on Moscow to negotiate, these attacks will continue. As Zelenskiy’s Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak warned, “Moscow will fight as long as it has the ability to produce weapons.”

The Trump administration has refused to place further sanctions on Russia without clear evidence that such measures serve America’s interests. This pragmatic approach has drawn fierce criticism from Democrats and the media establishment. But ask yourself: how many more American dollars must pour into Ukraine before our own citizens see tangible returns on that investment?

America First does not mean isolation—it means prudence. It means putting the safety and prosperity of American families ahead of reckless foreign entanglements. It means demanding accountability from both Ukraine and Russia, insisting they sit down at the negotiation table rather than dragging endless war into another decade.

This latest attack is a tragic reminder that the world remains a dangerous place. President Trump has rightly chosen a cautious course, one that seeks peace through strength, diplomacy over endless warfare. The American people elected Trump precisely because they trust him to protect American interests first and foremost. That means securing our southern border, restoring our industrial strength, and ending the era of endless foreign wars.

Our prayers go out to the innocent victims in Ukraine. But America’s policy must remain clear-eyed and realistic. The path to peace will never run through American weakness or endless foreign aid. It runs through strength, diplomacy, and an unwavering commitment to the America First principles that are making our nation great again.
