The Biden administration has been caught playing both sides of the fence when it comes to food and health policies, leaving many wondering whether they’re prioritizing actual public health or just another round of virtue signaling. In a Senate hearing, FDA Commissioner Robert Califf openly discussed banning Red Dye 3—a synthetic food dye banned in cosmetics decades ago due to its links to cancer but still inexplicably deemed “safe” for food consumption. This revelation came as Senator Tommy Tuberville praised the Trump-Kennedy Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) agenda, which aims to rid the food supply of toxic additives and tackle America’s chronic disease epidemic.
Califf admitted that dyes like Red Dye 3—found in thousands of processed foods from Halloween candy to mashed potatoes—pose serious risks. Yet, for years, the FDA has defended these additives, even as scientific studies linked them to cancer, hyperactivity in children, and other health issues. Tuberville didn’t mince words, asking why a substance known to cause cancer in cosmetics is still allowed in our food. This is the kind of common sense leadership Republicans are bringing back to Washington under Trump.

Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers like Governor Gavin Newsom are busy banning food dyes in California but seem to ignore the fact that the FDA—under their own party’s control—has done little to address these issues nationwide. It’s another classic case of Democrats wagging their fingers at one corner of the country while letting the problem fester everywhere else. In stark contrast, Trump and Kennedy’s MAHA movement focuses on overhauling the entire system to ensure Americans aren’t poisoned in the first place. As Kennedy himself said, “President Trump and I are going to stop the mass poisoning of American children.”
This isn’t just about food dyes. MAHA is targeting the massive problem of processed junk food dominating the SNAP program (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). Nearly 25% of SNAP spending goes toward junk food, with soda being the top purchase. Taxpayers are essentially funding both the unhealthy choices of SNAP recipients and the skyrocketing healthcare costs associated with obesity and chronic diseases. Senator Tim Kaine acknowledged the issue during the hearing, but you have to wonder why Democrats haven’t done anything meaningful about it during Biden’s presidency.
The Biden administration is rushing to ban indefensible and neurodegenerative food colorings before the term ends.
All credit should be going to @realDonaldTrump and @RobertKennedyJr for bringing these no-brainer health issues to top of national agenda.

Republicans like Senator Tuberville and Representative Josh Brecheen are leading the charge to ban junk food and soda from SNAP benefits. Brecheen’s proposed legislation would require SNAP funds to go toward healthy foods, a no-brainer for anyone not beholden to Big Food lobbyists. As Brecheen put it, “If someone wants to buy junk food on their own dime, that’s up to them. But don’t ask the taxpayer to pay for it and then expect them to pick up the tab for the health consequences.”
Under Trump’s leadership, real reform is finally on the horizon. The Trump-Kennedy team isn’t just talking about change—they’re making it happen. From cleaning up the food supply to ending taxpayer-funded junk food subsidies, this administration is putting Americans’ health first, not the profits of Big Food or the empty promises of the Democrats. It’s about time Washington got serious about protecting families from harmful policies and prioritizing the health of future generations.
