Stabbing Shocks Michigan Town: Lawlessness on the Rise

What happened in a Traverse City, Michigan Walmart on Saturday is more than a “multiple stabbing incident.” It’s a brutal reminder of the lawlessness that’s taken root in too many corners of this country. One suspect is in custody, but we don’t yet know how many victims were injured or why this attack occurred. What we do know is this: America’s public spaces—our stores, our streets, our schools—have become battlegrounds, and the people who let it happen are the same ones who spent years dismantling law and order.

This is not just about one man with a knife. It’s about a culture of permissiveness toward violence. It’s about a justice system that has been warped by progressive ideology. And it’s about a political movement that spent years demonizing the police and glorifying the criminal.

When you defund, demoralize, and delegitimize law enforcement, don’t act surprised when criminals feel emboldened. From big cities to small towns, the consequences have been devastating. Violent crime surged under Joe Biden’s presidency, aided by leftist prosecutors who treat thugs like victims and victims like afterthoughts. Even now, with President Trump back in office and restoring order at the federal level, many local jurisdictions remain deeply infected with soft-on-crime policies.

Michigan is no stranger to this trend. Traverse City isn’t Detroit—it’s a more rural, conservative-leaning area—but even here, crime can spill over when national and state leadership lets its guard down. We don’t yet know the motive behind this attack. But the fact that something like this can happen in broad daylight, in a Walmart no less, is a sign that the rot is spreading.

Walmart’s response? A carefully worded corporate statement: “We are working with police on this and deferring questions to them right now.” Translation: We’re not touching this until we know which way the political winds are blowing. This is the same Walmart that has no problem weighing in on social justice causes or ESG nonsense, but when real violence affects real people in one of their stores, they clam up.

Let’s be clear: the safety of Americans is not a partisan issue. But the solutions are. Republicans believe in strong policing, accountability for criminals, and the right of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves. The left believes in excuses, leniency, and disarming the public.

In fact, incidents like this are precisely why the Second Amendment exists. When danger breaks out in a public space, you don’t have time to wait for authorities. You need to be able to protect yourself and your family. Period. And yet, Democrats continue to push for more restrictions on law-abiding gun owners while violent criminals walk free. It’s backwards, dangerous, and morally bankrupt.

We don’t yet know all the details of what happened in Traverse City, but we know enough to ask the right questions: What kind of criminal history did the attacker have? Was he out on bail? Was he known to law enforcement? Was this preventable? And most importantly: what are local leaders going to do to make sure it doesn’t happen again?

The American people are tired of living in fear. They’re tired of watching their communities descend into chaos while politicians play games with their safety. Under President Trump, we have a chance to restore law and order from the top down. But it’s going to take more than just federal leadership. Governors, mayors, and prosecutors across this country need to make a choice: stand with the law-abiding or stand with the lawless.

There are no do-overs when it comes to public safety. Either we act to restore order now, or we continue down a path where even a trip to Walmart becomes a risk. The people of Traverse City deserve better. All Americans do.
