Prices are adding pressure across the globe, as supply chains wither away and the war in Ukraine adds fuel to a dumpster fire that has already gone well beyond an inferno.
Sri Lanka has been plunged into chaos as protests and violence have erupted all over the country due to the skyrocketing food prices, and the protestors are now engaged in fighting with law enforcement as they attempt to get the civil unrest under control.
Dozens of homes belonging to politicians have been raised to the ground and many other homes have also been destroyed in the process, along with the deaths of at least nine people.
The Sri Lankan Ministry of Defense has ordered soldiers to shoot anyone assaulting state officials or damaging state property. Armed forces were also ordered to disperse the demonstrators, using water cannons and tear gas.
Soldiers were also sent to the Prime Minister’s home to evacuate him and his family from the property, after protestors attempted to breach his property twice. Although they failed in their attempt to break into his presidential home, they did manage to burn down his ancestral home.
Rajapaksa has since resigned, and his brother has now taken his post. He resigned when television footage showed his supporters beating protestors with sticks and setting their tents on fire.
Violence is something that is about to become a normal occurrence if the course that the world is currently on, does not turn around very soon.
People are not happy – they have been locked up for two years and forced to take experimental vaccines, while their businesses have all but disappeared – now they are being abandoned by their government who caused the misery in the first place.
