When a U.S. Senator says the idea of God-given rights is “extremely troubling,” you know we’ve got a serious problem.
That’s exactly what just happened when Democrat Senator Tim Kaine from Virginia opened his mouth and let the mask slip. In a shocking moment during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Kaine sneered at the belief that our rights come from a Creator—not government—and compared it to something out of Iran’s theocratic regime.
Yes, you read that right. A sitting U.S. Senator just lumped the Declaration of Independence in with Sharia law.
Kaine said, “The notion that rights don’t come from laws and don’t come from the government, but come from the Creator — that’s what the Iranian government believes.” He called the idea “extremely troubling,” claiming that only dictators and religious fanatics talk like that.
Apparently, Kaine forgot he’s living in the United States of America—not some socialist utopia where government hands out rights like Halloween candy.
Well, President Trump wasn’t about to let that kind of foolishness slide.
Speaking at the Museum of the Bible to the newly formed White House Religious Liberty Commission, Trump torched Kaine in front of a fired-up crowd.
“The ineffectual senator from Virginia, a man named Tim Kaine, stated that the notion our rights come from our Creator is ‘extremely troubling’ to him,” Trump said. “It’s this Declaration of Independence that proclaims we’re endowed by our Creator with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
Then Trump got right to the point: “The senator from Virginia should be ashamed of himself.”
You can watch the moment here:

Trump’s message was crystal clear: our rights don’t come from bureaucrats, lobbyists, or the Democratic National Committee. They come from God Almighty. That’s not a fringe belief—it’s the bedrock of our nation. It’s right there in the Declaration of Independence.
But this kind of attack on faith and freedom is becoming all too common among the left. Kaine’s comments sparked a firestorm online, with conservatives slamming his ignorance and arrogance.
Daily Wire host Matt Walsh didn’t hold back: “He just announced that the core foundational principle of our country, affirmed in the Declaration of Independence, is ‘extremely troubling’ and ‘theocratic.’ He should be immediately removed from office. Anyone who rejects our nation’s foundational principles is obviously not fit to serve.”
Senator Ted Cruz also jumped in, reminding Kaine and the rest of the D.C. elites where our rights really come from: “Our rights don’t come from government or the DNC. They come from God.”
Exactly.
This isn’t just some academic debate. When politicians like Tim Kaine say our rights come from the government, what they’re really saying is that those rights can be taken away—whenever it suits them. You don’t have to look far to see how that mindset plays out: censorship, lockdowns, gun control, and government overreach at every level.
That’s why Trump’s response matters. He’s not just defending a founding idea—he’s defending every American’s right to speak freely, worship freely, and live without fear of a tyrannical government.
And let’s be honest—Kaine isn’t just “ineffectual” like Trump said. He’s dangerous. Anyone who thinks our rights are just a government favor has no business making laws for the rest of us.
The left wants to erase God from the public square and rewrite history. But as long as Trump is in charge, they’re not getting away with it.
God-given rights aren’t up for debate. They’re non-negotiable. And it’s about time more Americans start saying so—loud and clear.
