San Francisco’s Liberal Mayor Changes Tactics, Gets Tough on Crime

San Francisco Democratic Mayor London Breed has long pushed for leftist policies, including defunding the police, but has now changed her tune following a surge of brazen crimes across the city.

Now Breed is ready to take on criminals, calling for “aggressive” policing to return public safety to the people of her city. It may have had something to do with whether she will get reelected, but regardless, the move is a good one.

There are some challenges, however, in deciding to get “tough” on crime after advocating for defunding the police. First, you actually need police officers, something the city has struggled to retain with its recent liberal policy.

Second, you need to fund law enforcement. The city likely has the money, but will need to make some moves to get the right budget to attract and retain the officers needed.

Third, it has to actually work. A good speech against crime is a start, but unless officers start making arrests to stop some of the video people streaming of smash and grabs happening in broad daylight, nothing will improve.

Fourth, you have to hope it’s not too late for the city. Numerous businesses in San Francisco and the Bay area have already left the state or announced they plan to do so. These groups aren’t coming back because the mayor finally realized there’s a crisis.

But it’s a start. Check it out and see if you find the mayor’s words convincing as she seeks to push back on the criminal activity in her leftist city.
