Despite a potentially crowded field, including potential candidates from his home state of South Carolina, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) maintained that former President Donald Trump was still his pick for the 2024 Republican presidential primary on FNC’s “Hannity” on Monday.
Graham asserts that some of Trump’s most notable policy accomplishments were unique to him.
“How will other candidates stand out against Donald Trump if they support his policies? It feels like the Trump agenda is the agenda for the whole Republican Party.” questioned Sean Hannity, the host.
Graham responded, “I honestly don’t know, but I do know this: We’re blessed to have Mike Pompeo, who was a tremendous secretary of state. “Nikki Haley is a steadfast advocate for the American first agenda at the U.N. Yes, my friend and I adore Tim Scott. We have Mike Pence, who is arguably the most honorable person to have ever served in public office, and all are talking openly about running for president. Here is why I support Trump. I am aware of Trump’s drawbacks, but let me also discuss his advantages. Without Donald Trump, there would be no Trump policies. Do you know why NATO increased defense expenditure by $431 billion? Because they believed Trump’s declaration that he would withdraw and that he truly meant what he stated.”
“Do you know why the American embassy was relocated to Jerusalem from the capital? All the clever people warned it would start World War III, but every president prior to Trump said I’ll do it,” he continued. “Trump said, I promised, I would follow through. By his personal will, he is in charge of guarding the border. The moment he imposed tariffs on Chinese goods, Mexico answered, Yes, we’ll be happy to offer you 28,000 troops. We’ll be happy to retain people in Mexico because he knew Trump would impose tariffs on Mexican policies, and they were right. Without the person Donald Trump, there would be no Trump policies. And to all of these really great individuals, I don’t think you could achieve what he could — what he accomplished, and I want him to get another chance because it’s unfinished business.”
