Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) stated that he believes President Joe Biden should increase the child tax credit more than he did.
Vance said, “It should be greater,” when asked if he supported Biden’s child tax credit on CBS News’s Face the Nation. Parents who have dependent children can receive tax relief through the child tax credit.
Vance stated, “We ought to increase the child tax credit.” “We believe it ought to be larger. In addition to wanting to see this through to completion, I believe that President Trump and I also agree on the expansion of the child tax credit.”
Additionally, according to Vance, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has failed to get the child tax credit expanded in the Senate. Vance missed a Senate vote earlier this month on extending and maintaining the child tax credit because he was in Arizona visiting the southern border. The majority of Republicans in the Senate did not support the bill.
In response to a question on how a second Trump administration would improve the child tax credit, Vance stated that he would stop parents from receiving unexpected medical costs and raise the benefit’s dollar value to $5,000 per kid.
“One option is to make it larger for each child, but we’d rather see it priced higher. Well, look, I’d love to see a $5,000 per child tax credit. Of course, you have to work with Congress to see whether or not that is feasible,” Vance remarked.
“Marian, we’ve also put out legislation to stop the practice of parents receiving unexpected medical bills after giving birth, going to the hospital, selecting an out-of-network provider, and then returning home with these costs,” Vance stated.
According to him, the $5,000 increase he proposed would be a “wide base” that would benefit all families.
“I believe you want it to be applicable to every family in America. You now have a significant cutoff for lower-income families, and I don’t believe you want that. A distinct approach for families with greater incomes is not what you desire. All you want is a child tax credit that supports families,” Vance said.
.@JDVance says he thinks the child tax credit "should be bigger" than it was under the Biden administration, suggesting a credit of $5,000 per child.

Vance also supported allowing grandparents to claim the child tax credit, as they may be a kid’s primary caregiver. Vance responded, “All families would be included, of course,” when asked if Trump-Vance child-care programs would extend coverage to LGBT families.
