One such instance is the class action lawsuit against Ron DeSantis that has been brought by some of the illegal immigrants that Florida sent to Martha’s Vineyard.
This is nauseating material. People who crossed the border illegally are now suing a governor for providing them a free trip to a sanctuary city they understood they were headed to, including signing a consent form, which is so ridiculous it’s difficult to believe it’s not fiction.
How in the world there is any standing here is my first major concern. You normally need to have been harmed in order to file a lawsuit for damages. How did leaving their home under an overpass and going to Martha’s Vineyard affect their financial situation? What legal basis is there for suing DeSantis personally, given that it was officially the State of Florida that transported the illegal immigrants?
The lawsuit’s purported merits are another consideration. What Florida did was 1) unlawful, 2) fraudulent, and 3) profitable monetarily, in what ways? The contract did not generate any revenue for the state. Instead, they made purchases from the previous budget. The political benefit is entirely a matter of opinion. Some claim the action was politically detrimental to DeSantis and the state. How exactly do you measure that?
This case is absurd and senseless in every way. Any judge who is worth their salt will dismiss this right away. There is clearly no legal basis for suing DeSantis, and none of the facts described here are supported by solid proof. What crimes, if any, are even claimed to have taken place to support the claim that the flights were “illegal”? It’s just absurd.
But whenever a Republican becomes successful and starts winning, this is what occurs. Lawfare is a staple of the left, as demonstrated by the way Donald Trump has been attacked. But I have a feeling that DeSantis is ready for this and that, in the end, he’ll prevail once more. Because they are afraid of the Florida man, the left despises him.
