James Comey, the former director of the FBI, has finally spoken on the alleged hush money case involving Donald Trump.
In a CNN interview this week, Comey claimed that Trump is pleading for a prison term by disparaging Judge Juan Merchan, the case as a whole, and the jury.
Comey said that Judge Merchan might take Trump’s remarks into account while determining whether to give him a prison sentence.
The former FBI director said that he didn’t know what Merchan would ultimately decide.
“Normally, I would suggest that there is doubt in a case of this kind of white-collar crime.” However, by presenting a compelling case to the judge, the jury, and the entire legal system, the defendant is advocating for a jail sentence, as Comey stated on Tuesday. “When deciding whether to deter this individual and send a more general message that he needs to spend a little time behind bars, a judge will take that very seriously,” he went on.

In the past, Comey has faced criticism from Trump for lying about the case. The 45th president even referred to him as the “worst FBI director in history”.
The court will sentence the former president on July 11.
