Speaking on ABC’s “The View,” the former secretary of state and unsuccessful presidential candidate Hillary Clinton expressed her belief that a second term for outgoing President Donald Trump would mean “the end of our country as we know it,” bringing in a dictatorship akin to that of Adolf Hitler in Germany.
“I think that your loss to Trump in 2016 will always be seen as a pivotal moment in our country,” co-host Sunny Hostin remarked. Among the most important periods in our nation’s history. And we are still in shock, in my opinion, over Trump’s actions and the profound rifts he created in this nation. What would happen, in your opinion, if he were to be reelected?
Clinton remarked, “Oh my goodness, I can’t even consider that because I believe it would mean the end of our nation as we know it. I don’t say that lightly, either. You know, I detested losing, and I detested losing to him in particular because I had noticed so many red flags during the campaign.
“Literally from the time of his inauguration on, it was nothing but, you know, making up facts, accusing people of things, and downplaying the number of people who attended his own inauguration,” she went on. And I witnessed the unfolding of everything I was concerned about. I feel that he would be much worse today because, believe it or not, in the first term he was somewhat constrained by individuals he hired because he believed they would support him and they refused to put up with him.
“Now he is going to find certain people who have no principles, no conscience, who are completly tied, you know, to his fortunes, and would do anything he said,” she continued, adding that if he were ever near the Oval Office again. Thus, the damage is practically unfathomable. You know, I used to talk about one and done when I was the secretary of state. What I intended to convey was that after someone was duly elected, they would attempt to eliminate free speech, dissent, and elections altogether. And it was evident in nations where Hitler was legitimately elected. Suddenly, someone with such authoritarian, dictatorial impulses might say, “Oh, okay, we are going to shut this down.” These individuals will be placed in jail. Normally, they wouldn’t telegraph that. Trump is outlining his plans for us to follow.
“So listen, take him at his word,” said Clinton in closing. The man intends to literally destroy the rule of law and the ideals of our nation by locking up those who oppose him, closing down respectable media outlets, and more.
