Amy Swearer, a legal and judicial studies fellow with at the Heritage Foundation recently delivered an epic defense of gun rights which left the gun grabbing left completely speechless.
During a testimony before Congress, Swearer shares that this is not testimony she has been forced to give and it likely won’t be because the conversation after a mass shooting has become rather predictable.
She goes on to note that almost instinctively, the response following a tragedy is to pass a fury of new gun control laws which mostly target peaceful law-abiding citizens.
Swearer adds that opposition to these predictable gun control calls is often dismissed and the left and their allies in the media seize on the opportunity to attempt to paint defenders of the 2nd amendment as heartless individuals.
“Semi-automatic rifles are the type of firearm least often used to commit acts of gun violence,” she notes, adding that restricting other accessories such as magazine sizes would be “effectively useless.”
Swearer points out that the vast majority of mass shooters are above 21-years-old so the left’s push to raise the age at which guns can be purchased simply makes no sense.
She then goes on to list out a number of more effective solutions which will likely be ignored by Congress as they have been for quite some time because they don’t help to advance their agenda.
She concluded her testimony by saying that while alternative arguments like what she has presented have “rarely been met with open ears” – she “hopes today is different.”
