Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) declared this week that he is opening an inquiry into Google following rumors that the company hid details of the murder attempt on former president Donald Trump.
Reports surfaced last week that Google’s auto-populate feature did not include the shooting of the former president. This raised concerns about the potential suppression of information about the occurrence.
Google refuted the charges, claiming that there was no intentional attempt to conceal this information. The company’s protestations, meanwhile, don’t seem to have an impact on Marshall. This action is “yet another example of suppression against conservative voices and contradicts the meaning of Section 230,” the senator said in a letter to Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google.
According to Marshall, “[o]mitting recommendations for the most evident and recent assassination attempt victim demonstrates a deliberate bias against President Trump and people who use your search engine.”
Additionally, the member said that Google has demonstrated a blatant prejudice against conservatives and in favor of the left. He stated, “Google, the world’s biggest search engine operator, has turned into a propaganda arm of the radical left and the Biden-Harris administration.”
Although Marshall accepted Google’s denial in their “clarification,” he felt that it fell short.
But this explanation is terribly insufficient, deceptive, and false. The self-learning algorithms should have simply modified their autocomplete function amid a large spike in search queries over the previous two weeks if the function is actually indicative of the recent searches conducted on Google.”
The senator answered questions concerning Google’s bias in an interview with Fox Business. He maintained that as long as the business suppresses speech with a conservative slant, it should not be eligible for Section 230 protections.
“If Google wishes to transition into MSNBC, it must relinquish its protection on 230.” As the county square, Google should allow users like you, me, and your listeners to submit any information. They have no business acting as censors. Since they are practicing and acting as censors, they must forfeit their 230 protection.”
Google’s activities, according to Marshall, constitute “election meddling,” and the business doesn’t “want to see President Donald Trump seen as a hero.”
“Why is the world’s largest search engine genuinely hindering President Trump?” he questioned.
There is ample documentation of Google’s historical bias in favor of Dems. It has used its platform to influence elections in the past. Numerous reports have revealed a pronounced left-wing slant among the company’s staff members.
