Accusing President Joe Biden of being a “proud conservative” due to his steadfast support for democracy, Adam Kinzinger, a former Republican congressman from Illinois, backed Biden for reelection this week.
Many in Washington were not surprised by his endorsement.
As a proud conservative, I’ve always put America’s Democracy and our Constitution above all else.

Following Trump’s alleged rejection of his nomination for secretary of the Air Force, Kinzinger—who had previously considered challenging Trump for president—became an ally of the Democratic establishment.
The lawmaker from Illinois reportedly became a Democrat after the scandal. He shed tears while serving on the partisan January 6 Committee, a role that ultimately led to its condemnation; he advocated for gun control measures, became a victim of online pranksters, and expressed joy over Trump’s conviction.
“Today, as a strong conservative, I am backing Joe Biden for reelection because of my unshakable support for democracy.” Here is the endorsement from Kinzinger:
Kinzinger uploaded a video on X after announcing the endorsement, and the Biden campaign shared it.
“Do not sit on your hands while Donald Trump endangers the future of America,” he admonished all Americans, regardless of their political affiliation. “Let us stand together in support of Joe Biden and finally remove Donald Trump from the stage.”
Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez praised Kinzinger, calling her “a real public servant who is a model for choosing our country and our democracy over party and blind compliance to Trump.”
She went on to say that Republicans under Donald Trump have abandoned “the countless Americans” that Congressman Kinzinger stands for. It is important for our campaign to demonstrate our presence and gain the support of those Americans since they are part of President Biden’s coalition.
