Former Pres. Donald Trump’s Twitter account was reinstated on Saturday when Elon Musk, the new owner of the social media site surveyed people over the proposal.
Musk asked Twitter users whether they wanted him to reactivate the former president’s account. More than 15 million people voted in the poll.
“The populace has spoken. Trump will indeed be reinstated. Voice of the People, Vox Dei,” Musk tweeted Saturday evening.
The final vote count was 51.8 percent yes and 48.2 percent no.
Trump’s tweets appear to have been reinstalled, but his page no longer follows anybody. He must also reclaim all of his friends, who grew to almost a million within about an hour of his account being reinstated.
It’s uncertain whether Trump intends to return to Twitter after launching his personal social media company, Truth Social.
Trump commented on Musk’s survey earlier Saturday, saying that while he supported the billionaire’s decision to acquire Twitter, he saw no need to return.
“Truth Social has been extremely powerful, and I’ll be sticking there,” he stated in a video interview with the Republican Jewish Alliance. “However, I hear we’re receiving a strong vote on Twitter to go back. I don’t recognize it since there’s no purpose for it.”
