In an interview on this week’s episode of FNC’s “MediaBuzz,” Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), a contender for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024, refuted a statement made by his primary rival, former Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ).
DeSantis as well as the other GOP primary challengers, according to Christie, “just dance around” in order to avoid upsetting former President Trump and his followers.
DeSantis stated to Howie Kurtz of Fox News Channel that he was not interested in playing a “insult game” with Trump.
“I avoid using insults. So that is accurate. I believe that simply participating in the insult game turns off voters. I’m not interested in doing that. In terms of substance, we’ve been extremely open about our disagreements with the past president. For instance, when he pledged to remove the swamp, things deteriorated. The swamp was not drained by him. He pledged to construct a border wall and make Mexico pay for it. They only did like a 50-mile wall. There is still a tremendous expanse. He declared he would pay off the nation’s debt. In just four years, they increased the debt by over $8 trillion.”
“Naturally, he handed the reins of government over to Dr. Fauci in 2020, which resulted in lockdowns and a disastrous course correction due to borrowing and printing. I’ve been really open about it, but I don’t have any desire to disparage Donald Trump or any of the other candidates on a personal level. Let’s get past it and concentrate on the real problems, in my opinion.”
