Conservative commentator Candace Owens has had her visa to Australia revoked just ahead of a scheduled speaking tour. The decision was made by Australia’s Immigration Minister Tony Burke, who cited Owens’ past comments and suggested that her presence could disrupt public harmony. He referenced her statements on sensitive historical and religious issues as reasons for the block, stating that her rhetoric could incite discord in the country. Burke said Australia’s “national interest” would be better served by denying Owens entry.
“From downplaying the impact of the Holocaust with comments about [Dr. Josef] Mengele through to claims that Muslims started slavery, Candace Owens has the capacity to incite discord in almost every direction,” blared Burke. “Australia’s national interest is best served when Candace Owens is somewhere else.”
The Anti-Defamation Commission, a pro-Jewish organization, had advocated for Owens’ travel restriction. Dvir Abramovich, the group’s chair, argued that Australia should not be a platform for individuals who, in his view, have shown disregard for historical suffering, particularly of Holocaust survivors.
Another day, another example of free speech being stifled by leftist politicians who want to censor anyone who doesn’t agree with them. Funny how liberals are all on board with freedom of expression when it’s men pretending to be women when they enter public restrooms with children. But hey, apparently a family-focused, conservative political commentator is far more dangerous than any of those people. Welcome to the censorship era.
