Just before making the historic decision to drop out of the 2024 race, President Joe Biden hinted that he could be leaving by saying in a recent interview that he would think about leaving if doctors diagnosed him with a “medical issue.”
Biden made these remarks in a Tuesday filmed interview with BET before officially announcing he’d be dropping out on Sunday via social media.
In a snippet of the interview released on Wednesday, Biden said, “If I developed a physical ailment, if someone, a physician, came to me and said, you have this problem and that problem.”
Biden said that given how divided the nation is, he is in the frame of mind to compete for office again rather than acting as a transitional leader.
He remarked, “I felt I would be able to move on from this and pass it on to somebody else, so I stated I was going to be a transitional candidate.” However, I didn’t anticipate that people would become so deeply divided. To be very honest, I believe that aging only provides a small amount of knowledge.
Declaring that “it is time for him to transfer the torch,” Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) became the 21st Democrat in the House to demand that the 81-year-old president stand down on Wednesday.
Others believe Vice President Kamala Harris would be a worse choice for the Democratic Party if Biden withdraws before the November election.
According to medical professionals who have examined Biden’s comments, he could have Parkinson’s disease or a comparable ailment.
But despite his terrible, disoriented debate performance on June 27th that drove Democrats into a frenzy, the White House has insisted time and time again that Biden has not demonstrated any indications of cognitive deterioration.
The medical team determined that a cognitive test was not necessary in this particular circumstance, according to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s statement on July 2.
She then said, “We have presented an extensive, comprehensive annual report on his health. They say that it lacks justification and that it’s not required.”
