President Joe Biden told a reporter this week night that the Secret Service told him “it’s too dangerous” to campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris in front of large groups of people.
The limits on Biden seem to connect to new rules for the president concerning his new job as a Harris campaign supporter. This week, the Harris team said that Biden could be one of her top campaign advisers for the White House.
The fact that Biden is back could hurt the Harris team. After giving up the nomination for his party, Biden seems to be a liability. He is 81 years old, prone to mistakes, and has a bad track record in politics. RealClearPolitics’ average data as of September 2 shows that only 41% of people are happy with Biden’s job success, while 54% are unhappy.
Still, Biden went to Pittsburgh with Harris to a campaign event at the hall of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union. When he got back to the White House, a reporter asked him how it felt to be back on the campaign trail after being at the beach for weeks.
Biden said, “Feels good, but I can’t go out into groups anymore because the Secret Service won’t let me.” Biden said that the Secret Service told him “it’s too dangerous” when asked why.
He also said, “No one gets to go out.”
CNN talked about how the president can be used on the fundraiser tour in the fall and how the Harris campaign decided to bring Biden into the race:
“Biden told reporters that he’s excited to get back to campaigning after a two-week trip to California and Delaware. Sources close to the situation say that over the past few weeks, his advisers have been planning what he will do on the campaign trail this fall as he tries to build his legacy.

“The president is coming out with a first plan that includes stops in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan over the next five days. These are the important “blue wall” states that he barely beat former President Donald Trump in 2020.” His schedule for the next few months will be based on this mix of campaign events and formal events meant to push popular issues.”
