On Wednesday, after the majority of the results from Election Day had been calculated, President Biden vowed that he’d do nothing differently, despite voter dissatisfaction with the country’s course.
Biden had remarked earlier in his press conference that “the voters also were clear that they are still dissatisfied. I understand. I recognize that the last few years have been quite difficult for many individuals in this country.”
But, after citing Biden’s assertion that voters were frustrated and surveys indicating 75% of voters believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, a reporter asked Biden, “What do you propose to do differently in the next two years to improve people’s perspective of the future of this country, particularly as you consider a campaign for president in 2024?”
“Nothing, because they are simply learning about what we are doing,” Biden said, adding, “The more they know about what we are doing, the more support there seems to be.”
Later, Biden reaffirmed his position, adding, “I’m not going to modify — in fact, you know, there are some things I would like to change and add to. For example, we had approved the most comprehensive gun laws, anti- — you know, sane gun legislation in 30 years. But we didn’t outlaw assault weapons. I’m going to outlaw assault weapons… So I’m not going to change my decision.”
“We’re going to rebuild the heart of the nation, and we’re going to start treating each other with decency, dignity, and honesty,” said the man whose divisive speech has sparked outrage. “And it’s beginning to happen. People are — talks are getting more normal, more — how can I put it? — nice.”
“I’ll do all in my ability to ensure that we unite our country,” he added. “It’s difficult to sustain yourself as the world’s top democracy if you can’t — if you can’t establish some unity.”
