Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is telling it like it is.
The mainstream media are trying to fix Kamala Harris’s record as a far-left vice presidential candidate. Recently, Sanders told NBC News that Harris’s attempts to separate her policy ideas from her real political views are just a trick.
“I believe she is being realistic and doing what she believes in order to win the election.”
“You said that Vice President Kamala Harris is a leftist. She has backed Medicare for all in the past. She doesn’t now. She has backed a ban on fracking in the past. She doesn’t now. Senator, these are the points of view you ran on. Do you think she’s giving up on her progressive beliefs?” Kristen Welker, the presenter, asked Sanders.
Sanders said, “No, I don’t think she’s giving up on her beliefs.”
Sanders actually thinks that Harris is playing down her real views in public to help her win the race, all in the name of practicality.
He told her, “I think she’s being realistic and doing what she thinks is right to win the race.”
Welker then asked Sanders if he still thinks Harris is a progressive, even though she has changed her mind about some policies since she became the Democratic Party’s presidential choice. Sanders confirmed that he doesn’t think Harris has changed.
“Senator, do you still think Vice President Kamala Harris is a progressive?”
He said, “I do.”
What’s wrong with Harris’ “pragmatic” move to the center is that her past work speaks for itself.
Harris is a liberal from San Francisco, and during her four years in the U.S. Senate, she was even more liberal than Sanders, who calls himself a “democratic socialist.”
Also, Americans don’t need Sanders to tell them that Harris hasn’t changed. Last month, she said in an interview that her “views have not changed.”
She told CNN, “I think the most important and most significant thing about my policy views and choices is that my morals have not changed.”
After being in the race for almost two months, Harris’ team has finally put out a full list of policy ideas on her website. A “New Way Forward” is the platform Harris is running on, even though she has been vice president for almost four years and Democrats have held the White House for 12 of the last 16 years.
