It didn’t take long for Canada’s left-wing political elite to lose their minds over President Donald Trump doing what he does best: calling out globalist freeloaders and putting America first.
Liberal Canadian MP Charlie Angus is now accusing the Trump administration of committing an “act of war” because Trump referred to Canada as the “51st state” and had the audacity to impose tariffs on steel, aluminum, and other imports. That’s right — a sitting lawmaker from America’s polite neighbor to the north is now calling economic policy and off-the-cuff sarcasm acts of aggression. You truly can’t make this up.
Angus appeared on the far-left MeidasTouch Network, reacting like a teenage drama queen to Trump’s blunt, unapologetic foreign policy. He claimed that “when you say someone doesn’t have a right to have a country, that’s an act of war.” Really? No tanks, no missiles — just tariffs and tough talk — and suddenly it’s 1812 again?
This meltdown came after Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified that Trump’s “51st state” jab originated during a meeting with then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau back in November 2024. When Trudeau reportedly panicked over the idea of tariffs hurting Canada’s fragile economy, Trump simply replied, “Well, then you should become a state.” Classic Trump. Brutal. Honest. And — as always — effective.
Of course, now liberals are clutching their pearls, pretending Trump is trying to annex Canada. The truth? Trump is laying out the facts: we subsidize Canada to the tune of $200 billion a year. We buy their cars, their lumber, and their energy — and we’re done with the one-sided deals. America first means exactly that.
Trump’s tariffs, including a 25% hit on steel, aluminum, and all Canadian imports starting April 2, have predictably triggered the usual suspects. Angus warned of a Canadian “boycott” of U.S. goods that he claimed could cost America 140,000 jobs. But let’s be honest — Canadian outrage lasts about as long as a Tim Hortons coffee. We’ll survive.
Trump summed it up perfectly on Fox News: “We don’t need their cars. We don’t need their lumber. We certainly don’t want their automobiles.” That’s not an act of war — that’s leadership. That’s standing up for American workers in Michigan and South Carolina instead of bowing to globalist guilt trips.
While Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney tries to clean up the mess left by Trudeau, Trump is making one thing clear: no more free rides. The days of the U.S. bankrolling our neighbors are over.
Canadian MP Charlie Angus: Well, I think Marco Rubio probably needs to be sent back to school because when you say that someone doesn’t have a right to have a country, that’s an act of war. When you arbitrarily rip up trade agreements, threaten a country, and say you’re going to… pic.twitter.com/EadhvUlorw
